Workhorse Mentors Program Creating Future Kentucky Literary Greats
Mentees will need to be 16 years of age at the start of the mentorship and enrolled in a school program, course, camp with writing expectations and outcomes. Mentors will need to complete volunteer forms for minors/school students and must pass a background check if working with minors/school students. Each approved mentor will receive a $400 stipend.
“One of my father’s greatest joys was mentoring the next generation of Kentucky writers”, states Larry Pemble, Foundation Managing Director. “We are very excited about partnering with Christopher and Workhorse to support the Workhorse Mentoring Program. My Dad would be very pleased.”
The program began in August and will conclude in June. “The James Baker Hall Foundation has given Workhorse Mentors, in its pilot year, a chance to formalize and professionalize a process that is essential to the developing writer”, states Christopher McCurry of Workhorse. He continues, “When a young writer has the opportunity to work with and learn from someone they admire in an informal setting, they witness the grit and creativity of our art first hand.”
